The H-1B visa is a non-immigrant classification intended for individuals seeking temporary employment in specialty occupations. This visa category is governed by both the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL).

To qualify for H-1B sponsorship, the following criteria must be met:

  • The offered position must require both the theoretical and practical application of a highly specialized body of knowledge and must have a minimum qualification of a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • The applicant must possess at least a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in a field directly related to the position.
    Note: Degrees earned outside the United States must be evaluated fo U.S. equivalency.
  • Texas Christian University (TCU) must act as the official sponsor for the H-1B petition. Prospective employees are not permitted to self-petition for H-1B status.
